Slate
Microsoft-owned publication
Slate is an online magazine covering news, politics, culture, and technology, known for contrarian takes and explanatory journalism.
Founded in 1996, it was among the first web-only publications to gain mainstream readership: I read that piece on Slate. (Lowercase slate is the rock or a list of candidates.)
