slater
Stone tile tradesperson
A slater is a craftsman who installs slate roofing tiles.
In parts of Britain, Australia, and New Zealand, slater also refers to woodlice—the small gray crustaceans that curl into balls when disturbed.
The roofing sense comes from the material; the creature sense likely from its slate-gray color and overlapping segments.
