Shetland pony

Small Scottish equine

A Shetland pony is a small, sturdy breed of horse originating from the Shetland Islands of Scotland.

Standing under 42 inches tall, they are among the smallest horse breeds but remarkably strong for their size, traditionally used for hauling peat and coal.

Their thick coats and compact build suit harsh northern climates.

The children learned to ride on a gentle Shetland pony.
