Shang

Bronze Age China

Shang refers to the Shang dynasty, an ancient Chinese civilization that ruled from roughly 1600 to 1046 BCE.

It represents the earliest Chinese dynasty for which there is both documentary and archaeological evidence, known for bronze casting and the development of Chinese writing: Shang oracle bones provide our earliest examples of Chinese script. (Lowercase shang is a rare dialectal verb.)
