Saint Brigid
Kildare's holy founder
Saint Brigid is one of Ireland's three patron saints, along with Saint Patrick and Saint Columba.
She founded a monastery at Kildare in the fifth century and is associated with healing, poetry, and agriculture.
Her feast day, February 1, coincides with Imbolc, the Celtic spring festival.
Many traditions attributed to her—the perpetual flame, the sacred well—blend Christian devotion with older Irish customs.
