Russian emigre
Left the motherland
A Russian émigré is someone who has left Russia to settle abroad, especially those who fled following the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution or the fall of the Soviet Union.
The term carries connotations of political exile and cultural displacement: The café was a gathering place for Russian émigrés.
