Rhaeto-Romance
Swiss mountain languages
Rhaeto-Romance refers to a group of Romance languages spoken in the Alps, including Romansh in Switzerland, Ladin in northern Italy, and Friulian in northeastern Italy.
These languages descend from Latin but developed in relative isolation in mountain valleys.
Whether they form a unified group or represent separate developments remains debated among linguists.
