Prince of Orange
Netherlands crown heir
Prince of Orange is a title in the Dutch royal family, traditionally held by the heir apparent to the throne.
The title derives from the medieval principality of Orange in southern France.
William of Orange led the Dutch revolt against Spanish rule in the 16th century, and another William of Orange became King of England in 1688.
Today the title functions much like Prince of Wales in Britain: The Prince of Orange attended the state funeral.
