Prince Regent
Substitute royal ruler
A prince regent is a prince who rules in place of a monarch—typically because the king or queen is incapacitated, absent, or too young to govern.
The title is most associated with the future George IV, who ruled Britain from 1811 to 1820 while his father George III was deemed unfit due to mental illness.
That period, called the Regency, gave its name to an era of distinctive architecture, fashion, and literature.
