Prince John is a villain in the Robin Hood legend, the treacherous younger brother who schemes to seize the English throne while King Richard is away on crusade.
He appears as the corrupt, tax-raising antagonist in countless retellings: Prince John raised taxes while his brother fought in the Holy Land.
