Philae

Egyptian temple island

Philae is an island in the Nile River in southern Egypt, site of an ancient temple complex dedicated to the goddess Isis.

The temples were relocated to nearby Agilkia Island in the 1970s to save them from flooding caused by the Aswan High Dam.

Philae is also the name of a European Space Agency lander that touched down on a comet in 2014—the first spacecraft to achieve such a landing.
