fired clay
Hardened pottery material
Fired clay is clay that has been hardened by heating in a kiln, transforming it from a soft, moldable material into a permanent solid.
The firing process drives out water and causes chemical changes that make the clay durable and water-resistant.
Pottery, bricks, tiles, and terra-cotta are all made of fired clay: The archaeologists found fragments of fired clay vessels dating back three thousand years.
