Pentax

Japanese optics company

Pentax is a Japanese brand of cameras and optical equipment, known particularly for single-lens reflex cameras.

The name combines "penta" (for the pentaprism viewfinder technology) with "contax" (a competitor's name).

Once a leading SLR manufacturer, Pentax now occupies a niche position among photography enthusiasts: My grandfather shot everything on his old Pentax.
