Patrick Bateman

Patrick Bateman is the protagonist of Bret Easton Ellis's 1991 novel *American Psycho* and its film adaptation.

A wealthy Wall Street investment banker by day, he narrates increasingly graphic acts of torture and murder while obsessing over business cards, restaurant reservations, and designer clothing.

The character has become a cultural shorthand for superficial materialism masking moral emptiness, and online, for performative masculinity and sigma-male irony: He's giving Patrick Bateman vibes.

Whether Bateman actually commits his crimes or merely fantasizes them remains deliberately ambiguous.
