Nick Carraway
Nick Carraway is the narrator and a central character in F.
Scott Fitzgerald's novel *The Great Gatsby* (1925).
A Yale graduate from the Midwest who moves to New York to work in bonds, he becomes neighbor to the mysterious Jay Gatsby and serves as the story's moral observer.
The name has become shorthand for a seemingly neutral narrator whose reliability proves questionable: Every memoir has its Nick Carraway problem—the witness who shapes what we see.
