Magyars
Central European ethnicity
Magyars are the Hungarian people—the ethnic group native to Hungary and the dominant population there.
The term refers both to the people and, as an adjective, to their language and culture.
While *Hungarian* is more common in English, *Magyar* appears in historical contexts and when emphasizing ethnic rather than national identity: The Magyars settled the Carpathian Basin in the ninth century.
