Magna Mater
Cybele's Roman title
Magna Mater is Latin for "Great Mother," the Roman name for Cybele, an Anatolian goddess whose worship was officially adopted in Rome in 204 BCE.
Her cult involved ecstatic rituals and self-castrating priests called galli.
The term sometimes appears in discussions of ancient mother-goddess figures generally: The Magna Mater cults spread throughout the Roman Empire.
