Longfellow

Nineteenth-century verse writer

Longfellow is the surname of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807–1882), an American poet whose accessible verse made him the most popular poet of his era.

Works like "Paul Revere's Ride," "The Song of Hiawatha," and "Evangeline" were memorized by generations of schoolchildren.

The name occasionally appears as shorthand for his poetry: We had to recite Longfellow in fifth grade.
