Liana

Girl with roots

A liana is a long-stemmed woody vine that roots in the ground and climbs trees or other structures to reach sunlight in forest canopies.

Lianas are especially abundant in tropical rainforests, where they loop and tangle between trees, sometimes forming natural bridges.

The word is also spelled liane.

Tarzan famously swings from liana to liana through the jungle.

As a capitalized word, Liana is a given name for girls.
