King Herod
King Herod refers to Herod the Great, the Roman-appointed ruler of Judea from roughly 37 to 4 BCE, best known from the biblical account of ordering the massacre of infant boys in Bethlehem after learning of Jesus's birth.
The name has become shorthand for murderous tyranny against the innocent: He's a regular King Herod.
Several of his descendants also bore the name Herod in various governing roles mentioned in the New Testament.
