Joseph Pulitzer

Joseph Pulitzer was a Hungarian-American newspaper publisher who built a media empire in the late 19th century.

His New York World pioneered sensationalist journalism, competing fiercely with William Randolph Hearst.

Pulitzer endowed the prizes that bear his name—annual awards for excellence in journalism, literature, and musical composition, first given in 1917.
