Jonah and the whale
Swallowed prophet tale
Jonah and the whale refers to the biblical story in which the prophet Jonah, fleeing God's command to preach to Nineveh, is swallowed by a great fish and survives three days in its belly before being vomited onto shore.
The tale is invoked for themes of divine pursuit, reluctant obedience, or miraculous survival.
A "Jonah" has come to mean a person who brings bad luck, from the sailors' belief that Jonah's presence caused their storm.
