James Monroe

James Monroe was the fifth president of the United States, serving from 1817 to 1825.

His presidency is associated with the "Era of Good Feelings" and the Monroe Doctrine, which opposed European colonialism in the Americas.

Monroe was the last president who had been a Founding Father and the last to wear the powdered wig and knee breeches of the Revolutionary generation.
