Isadora Duncan

Scarf-strangled dance pioneer

Isadora Duncan (1877–1927) was an American dancer who rejected classical ballet in favor of free, expressive movement inspired by ancient Greek art and natural forms.

She performed barefoot in flowing tunics, scandalizing and captivating audiences across Europe and America.

Her personal life was as dramatic as her art—marked by tragic deaths, famous lovers, and her own bizarre end when her long scarf caught in a car wheel and broke her neck.
