Indian-American

South Asian descent

Indian-American describes a person of Indian descent living in the United States, or something relating to this community: Indian-American cuisine, the Indian-American vote.

The term distinguishes people with ancestry from India from Native Americans, whom "Indian" alone might suggest.

Like other hyphenated American identities, it can describe immigrants or those born in the U.S. to Indian parents.
