H. G. Wells

H.

G.

Wells (1866–1946) was an English writer whose science fiction novels established many conventions of the genre. *The Time Machine*, *The War of the Worlds*, *The Invisible Man*, and *The Island of Doctor Moreau* introduced concepts—time travel, alien invasion, invisibility—that became staples of speculative fiction.

Wells also wrote social novels, popular histories, and political commentary advocating socialism and world government.
