Siegfried Sassoon
Siegfried Sassoon was an English poet and memoirist known for his searing anti-war poetry during World War I.
Though decorated for bravery as an officer, he became a vocal critic of the war's conduct, famously publishing a soldier's declaration against its prolongation.
His war poems combine stark realism with bitter satire: Does it matter?—losing your legs?
His later prose memoirs fictionalized his experiences in gentler tones.
