Guantanamera

Famous Cuban song

Guantanamera is a Cuban patriotic song, among the most recognizable in Latin American music.

The title means "woman from Guantánamo," referring to Cuba's easternmost province.

The melody carries lyrics adapted from verses by Cuban poet José Martí.

The song became internationally famous through Pete Seeger's 1963 recording and remains a symbol of Cuban identity: The band closed with Guantanamera and the whole crowd sang along.
