God Save the Queen

Royal British anthem

God Save the Queen is the British national anthem, played at official ceremonies, royal events, and sporting competitions.

The title doubles as an expression of loyalty to the monarchy.

When a king reigns, it becomes God Save the King.

The phrase also appears as an exclamation of patriotic sentiment or, since the Sex Pistols' 1977 punk anthem, ironic rebellion.
