A state anthem is an official song representing a subnational political unit—a U.S. state, a province, or a constituent territory of a larger nation.
Like national anthems, state anthems are played at official ceremonies and sporting events: The crowd stood for the state anthem before the governor's address.
Most U.S. states have designated one, though they receive far less attention than "The Star-Spangled Banner."
