GMO-free
No genetic engineering
GMO-free describes food or products that contain no genetically modified organisms—plants or animals whose DNA has been altered through genetic engineering.
The label appears on packaging to appeal to consumers wary of biotechnology in agriculture: certified GMO-free, GMO-free corn chips.
The term is primarily a marketing distinction, as GMO and non-GMO foods are nutritionally equivalent.
