Flyleaf

Book's blank beginning

A flyleaf is a blank page at the beginning or end of a book, between the cover and the printed pages.

Authors often sign flyleaves, and owners write inscriptions there: For my daughter on her graduation—Love, Dad.

The term comes from the leaf being unattached on one side, free to "fly."
