English sonnet
Bard's lyric structure
An English sonnet is a fourteen-line poem in iambic pentameter with a specific rhyme scheme: three quatrains followed by a closing couplet (ABAB CDCD EFEF GG).
The form is also called a Shakespearean sonnet after its most famous practitioner.
The final couplet typically delivers a twist, resolution, or summary of the preceding twelve lines.
