Duran Duran is a British pop band that emerged from the New Wave movement of the early 1980s, known for synthesizer-driven songs and stylish music videos that helped define the MTV era.
The name, taken from a character in the 1968 film *Barbarella*, has become shorthand for a particular strain of glossy, danceable eighties pop: Their sound is very Duran Duran.
