Discmans

Portable CD players

Discmans is a plural of Discman, Sony's trademark for its portable CD player introduced in 1984.

The device let users listen to compact discs through headphones while walking or commuting, succeeding the cassette-based Walkman.

Though Discman was a brand name, it became generic for any portable CD player: I went through three Discmans in high school.

The technology is now obsolete, replaced by digital music players and smartphones.
