DCT
Frequency domain conversion
DCT stands for discrete cosine transform, a mathematical technique that converts spatial data into frequency components.
It's fundamental to image and video compression—JPEG images and most video codecs rely on DCT to identify which visual information can be discarded with minimal perceptible loss.
The encoder applies DCT to 8×8 pixel blocks.
