Chromium

Open-source browser base

Chromium is a hard, steel-gray metallic element used to plate other metals and in alloys like stainless steel.

Its compounds produce vivid colors—chrome yellow, chrome green—which explains the name (from Greek for color).

Chromium also refers to Google's open-source browser project, the foundation for Chrome and other browsers.
