Christian cross

Faith's central emblem

The Christian cross is the principal symbol of Christianity, representing the wooden structure on which Jesus Christ was crucified.

It appears on churches, in jewelry, and throughout religious art.

The basic form is two intersecting lines—one vertical, one horizontal—though variations abound: the Latin cross has a longer lower arm, the Greek cross has equal arms, and the crucifix depicts Christ's body on the cross.

She wore a small gold cross around her neck.
