Catherine of Aragon
Catherine of Aragon was the first wife of Henry VIII of England, whose failure to produce a male heir led Henry to seek an annulment.
The Pope's refusal precipitated England's break with Rome and the English Reformation.
A Spanish princess and devout Catholic, she maintained until death that her marriage was valid.
Her daughter became Mary I.
