Thomas Cromwell
Henry's chief minister
Thomas Cromwell was an English statesman who served as chief minister to Henry VIII from 1532 to 1540.
He engineered the English Reformation, dissolving the monasteries and establishing royal supremacy over the Church of England.
A skilled administrator who rose from humble origins, Cromwell fell from favor after arranging Henry's disastrous marriage to Anne of Cleves and was executed for treason and heresy.
