Canzoniere

Italian lyric collection

A canzoniere is a collection of lyric poems, especially love poems in the Italian tradition.

The term comes from Italian, meaning "songbook." The most famous is Petrarch's fourteenth-century *Canzoniere*, addressed to his beloved Laura, which established conventions of love poetry that influenced European literature for centuries.

He studied the Petrarchan canzoniere in his Renaissance literature course.
