Canadian geese

V-formation autumn fliers

Canadian geese is a common but technically incorrect name for Canada geese, the large migratory waterfowl with black heads and necks, white chin straps, and brown bodies.

The species name is Canada goose—named for the country where they breed—not an adjective describing their nationality: The Canada geese have returned to the pond.

Despite this, Canadian geese remains widespread in casual speech.
