California flag
Golden State standard
The California flag is the official state flag of California, featuring a brown grizzly bear walking on green grass above the words "California Republic," with a red star in the upper left corner and a red stripe along the bottom.
The design commemorates the short-lived Bear Flag Republic of 1846, when American settlers briefly declared independence from Mexico.
Also called the Bear Flag.
