CS gas

Crowd control aerosol

CS gas is a chemical compound used by law enforcement and military as a riot control agent, commonly called tear gas.

When dispersed, it causes intense irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory system, producing tears, burning sensations, and difficulty breathing.

The effects are temporary but incapacitating, designed to disperse crowds or subdue individuals without causing permanent harm.

Police deployed CS gas to break up the protest.

The name comes from the initials of the chemists who first synthesized it.
