CBGB

Manhattan punk birthplace

CBGB was a music club in New York City's Bowery neighborhood, operating from 1973 to 2006.

The name stood for "country, bluegrass, and blues," but the venue became the birthplace of American punk rock, launching bands like the Ramones, Blondie, and Talking Heads.

The initials now evoke raw, stripped-down rock music and the gritty New York scene of the 1970s.
