Beale Street
Memphis music thoroughfare
Beale Street is a street in downtown Memphis, Tennessee, historically the center of African American music and culture in the city.
It became famous as the birthplace of the blues in the early twentieth century, where musicians like W.C.
Handy performed.
Today it remains a nightlife and entertainment district: We spent the evening bar-hopping on Beale Street.
