Barbary ape

Tailless African primate

A Barbary ape is a tailless monkey native to North Africa and Gibraltar—the only wild monkey population in Europe.

Despite the name, it's actually a macaque, not an ape.

The species holds symbolic significance in Gibraltar, where legend holds that British rule will end if the monkeys ever leave the Rock.
