Baba Yaga
Slavic forest witch
Baba Yaga is a witch from Slavic folklore, typically depicted as a fearsome old woman who lives in a hut standing on chicken legs deep in the forest.
She flies in a mortar, steering with a pestle, and may help or devour those who seek her out depending on their worthiness.
The figure appears in countless Russian fairy tales and has become a cultural shorthand for a supernatural crone: The abandoned farmhouse looked like something Baba Yaga might inhabit.
