Russian fairy tales
Baba Yaga's domain
Russian fairy tales form a rich tradition of folk narratives featuring characters like Baba Yaga (a fearsome witch who lives in a hut on chicken legs), Koschei the Deathless (an immortal villain), and Ivan the Fool (a simpleton hero who triumphs through kindness or luck).
These stories often involve magical animals, enchanted forests, and quests for firebirds or water of life.
Many were collected and published by Alexander Afanasyev in the nineteenth century, preserving oral traditions that had circulated for generations.
