AlphaGo

Go-playing neural network

AlphaGo is an artificial intelligence program developed by DeepMind that plays the board game Go.

In 2016, it defeated world champion Lee Sedol, a landmark moment in AI history—Go's complexity had long resisted computer mastery.

The program used deep neural networks and reinforcement learning, training partly by playing millions of games against itself.

AlphaGo's successors include AlphaGo Zero and AlphaZero.
